Newsome Law Expanding to Main Street in Columbia

Staff Report From Columbia CEO

Thursday, September 19th, 2019

Newsome Law, a solutions-focused tax, estate and trust firm, has relocated to a new office at 1501 Main St., Suite 601, in the TD Bank building on Boyd Plaza, across from the Columbia Museum of Art in downtown Columbia, South Carolina.

The move complements the firm’s sustained growth and creates opportunities to accommodate additional staff, meet with more clients and further distinguish itself as a local, established tax and estate planning leader. It marks a return to Main Street for owner Billy Newsome, who spent 25 years on the corridor as a member of Nexsen Pruet before starting Newsome Law in 2018.

“We looked at properties for about a year,” says Newsome. “Main Street is thriving, and so are we. We decided to go with this location for the same reason that I tell my clients they should choose an attorney – comfort, familiarity and trust. I practiced law on this street for 25 years, and we plan to be here for many years to come.”

The renovated interior was designed and outfitted by M Swan Interiors, and Colite provided refreshed signage. George McCutchen of Wilson Kibler Commercial Real Estate represented the buyer.

“We are excited about the layout, and it speaks to the ways in which we can better serve the needs of our existing clients, as well as our future clients,” notes Newsome. “We are at the beginning of the largest wealth transfer in the history of our country. Over the next 25 years, $68 trillion will pass to the next generation. Proper tax, legal and family planning and implementation will be essential.”

Newsome has a master’s degree in tax law and is a certified specialist in the areas of estate planning and probate law by the South Carolina Supreme Court.
