TransformSC Releases 2019 Conference Agenda, Focuses on Personalization through Project Based Learning

TransformSC, an education initiative of the South Carolina Council on Competitiveness will hold its 2019 annual conference on Monday, March 11, 2019, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at theColumbia Metropolitan Convention Center in downtown Columbia, South Carolina.
Tom Vander Ark, author, and CEO of the learning design firm ‘Getting Smart,’ will set the tone for the day with an opening address that will offer insight into the newest information behind project-based learning (PBL). He will be sharing trends and case studies from schools across the U.S. and lead a Q&A session with two TransformSC co-chairs: Mike Brenan, SC State President of BB&T and Pamela Lackey, recently retired President of AT&T.
Following Mr. Vander Ark’s address, breakout sessions will be held throughout the day. Sessions include design workshops from New Tech Network, a national non-profit organization that is driving transformation in schools nationwide; Suzie Boss, an author and education consultant out of Portland, OR; and Stephanie DisTasio from the South Carolina Department of Education’s Office of Personalized Learning.
Bates Middle School, Monarch Elementary, and Carolina High will also hold breakout sessions that will include panel discussions with school representatives and Q&A with the audience.
State leaders, including Governor McMaster and the leadership in both the SC House and Senate, have made education their top priority for 2019. This makes it more important than ever that education stakeholders collaborate and engage with one another. The 2019 TransformSC conference is expected to have over 400 business leaders, policymakers, and teams of educators from around South Carolina in attendance, making it an ideal environment for sharing and advancing ideas on how project-based learning and other transformative concepts in education can continue to thrive in South Carolina.
