S.C. Club for Growth Issues Scoring Alert

Staff Report From South Carolina CEO

Thursday, February 7th, 2019

The South Carolina Club for Growth, the state’s leading conservative watchdog group, called on legislators to support Conway attorney Blake Hewitt in the contest for the S.C. Court of Appeals.

Hewitt was described by the Judicial Merit Selection Commission as "superbly qualified," and a candidate who would be a "tremendous asset to the bench."

"A clear contrast exist between these two candidates," said S.C. Club for Growth advisor R.J. May III. "Judge Alison Renee Lee was nominated by President Obama, opposed by Senator Tim Scott and Lindsey Graham, and allowed accused criminals to go free after reducing their bond. Shortly thereafter, those same criminals committed two murders in Richland County."

"Mr. Hewitt is strict constitutionalist and self-described minimalist. South Carolinians can rest assure that Mr. Hewitt would refrain from judicial activism and serve the Palmetto State well."
