United Way of the Midlands' Young Leaders Society Kicks Off New Year with “A Night for the Books” August 17th

Staff Report From Columbia CEO

Thursday, August 2nd, 2018

United Way of the Midlands’ Young Leaders Society is excited to announce its 2018-19 kickoff event, “A Night for the Books.” The event will support the continued partnership between YLS and United Way’s Midlands Reading Consortium for the Be a Book Bunny program launched in 2017.
“A Night for the Books” is a black-tie optional event at the South Carolina State Museum that will feature an open bar and bites inspired by classic children’s books provided by Capital City Catering. Guests are encouraged to bring new, age-appropriate books to include in Book Bunny totes; book donors will be entered in a drawing to win an Amazon Fire tablet.
In 2017, YLS’ Be a Book Bunny program provided tote bags of new, age-appropriate books and school supplies to over 500 pre-K through second grade students at risk of falling behind in reading level and tutored through MRC.
“We were thrilled with the success of Be a Book Bunny last year,” said YLS Chair Lyndey Bryant. “We’re positive we can continue to serve even more Midlands children and encourage a life-long passion for reading in and out of the classroom.”
YLS Kickoff: A Night for the Books is sponsored by Elliott Davis, Nephron Pharmaceuticals Corporation, Adams and Reese, LLP, NAI Avant, Haynsworth Sinkler Boyd, Marigold Modern Kids and Wateree Site Services.
