BB&T donated $100,000 to United Way of the Midlands to aid in the fight against homelessness. The donation will fund services to support long-term housing stability for youth as well as families with school-aged children potentially facing homelessness.
The fundamental mission of United Way is to stimulate positive change through partnerships with local businesses and community leaders by identifying solutions that help move families from crisis to independence.
“BB&T is one of our most generous and thoughtful partners, both in terms of investment as well as leadership,” said Sara Fawcett, President and CEO of United Way. “United Way is grateful to have BB&T as an ally and supporter in the Midlands.”
The contribution from BB&T will expand programs United Way has found to be successful for these vulnerable populations, including resources to help them attain long-term goals.
“Education is the key to our children achieving their full potential, and housing instability is a serious barrier to academic achievement,” said Mike Brenan, President of BB&T South Carolina. “Investing in homelessness prevention is not only important for their immediate well-being, but is also imperative for the long-term future of our children and our communities.”
