Sanford Statement on Border Adjustment Tax
Friday, July 28th, 2017
Representative Mark Sanford released the following statement after the border adjustment tax was omitted from the GOP tax reform plan:
"Last week, I was prevented from offering an amendment to the 2018 Budget Resolution that would have blocked the $1 trillion border adjustment tax. Accordingly, I am pleased to hear that there is consensus among the White House, Speaker Paul Ryan, and Majority Leader Mitch McConnell that the border adjustment tax is off the table. For too long, the border adjustment tax has created unnecessary divisions within the House GOP Conference and within the conservative movement as a whole and has slowed our efforts to find common ground. Moving forward, I look forward to working with my colleagues this fall on permanent tax reform to improve America’s economic competitiveness and provide tax relief for all South Carolinians."
