Brad Dean, president and CEO of the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce, has been appointed to the new National Advisory Committee on Travel and Tourism Infrastructure. Dean was also asked to serve as chair of the funding and finance subcommittee.
Announced by the U.S. Department of Transportation, Dean joins 25 esteemed public and private sector stakeholders from the transportation, travel and tourism industries who will provide advice and industry expertise to the U.S. Secretary of Transportation on key transportation decisions and policies. The appointees will also develop planning tools to assist federal, state and local officials in making transportation investment decisions related to projects that improve travel and tourism.
"I am incredibly honored to serve as an inaugural member of this vital national committee, especially given so much talk about increased investments in infrastructure by President-Elect Trump," Dean said. "With our fast-growing permanent population and an increasing number tourists each year, we represent a perfect example of why better roads and enhanced connectivity is so important. Having a place at this national table will help shine a light on regions like ours that have a heavy reliance on tourism yet are in need of vast improvements in infrastructure."
Dean will serve on the committee for a two-year term.
"This community is fortunate to have a leader that is so highly respected locally and nationally for his insight on the travel and tourism industry," said Radha Herring, president of the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce. "I know I can speak on behalf of the entire board when I say that Brad's ever-present professionalism, tremendous intellect, and commitment to the travel and tourism industry, make him a perfect choice for this prestigious national panel, especially being tasked with chairing the funding and finance subcommittee."
