Columbia Airport Passenger Enplanements up 5% for 1st Half of Year

The number of passengers boarding flights at Columbia Metropolitan Airport climbed more than 5% for the first half of 2016 compared with the initial six months of 2015.

According to statistics posted on the airport’s website, passenger enplanements totaled 280,230 for the first half of the year, up 5.29% over 266,142 recorded in the first half of 2015.

For the month of June, passenger enplanements rose 2.08% to 49,373 compared with 48,369 enplanements for June 2015.

Meanwhile, total passenger traffic at the airport – both arrivals and departures – was up less than 1%. The airport reported 98,060 passengers used the airport in June compared with 97,297 for the same month in 2015.

Through the first half of the year, total passenger traffic rose about 6% over the initial six months of 2015, the airport said. Through June, the airport counted 569,609 passengers compared with 536,963 for the first half of 2015.

Delta Airlines, which owns a 45% share of the Columbia passenger market, reported 122,301 enplanements for the first half of 2016, up 5.22% over a similar period in 2015. For June, Delta enplanements totaled 21,863, up 2.12% over June 2015’s figures.

United Express showed a healthy increase for June with the number of passenger boardings climbing 15.38% to 8,710 compared with 7,549 for June 2015. Through the first half of the year, United posted an increase of 5.64% in passenger enplanements over a similar period in 2015.

American Airlines, the third major carrier serving the market, reported 109,818 passenger boardings in the first half of the year, up 6.14% over a similar period of 2015. In June, American enplanements slipped 2.8% to 18,980.

As far as cargo business, the airport did not have total figures for the month. However,

United Parcel Service, which operates a regional hub at the airport, reported that the amount of cargo loaded on planes rose 3.08% in June and was up 2.66% for the first half of 2016.
